It’s Saturday. Do you know where your mother is?

My kids’ mother is learning how to record and mix on a multi-track. I just recorded a song I wrote called “Wolves Never Lose Sleep.” 12-bar blues pattern. 88 BPM. Cm, Fm, Gm. It’s got a drum track, finger bass, piano, awesome horns, primary vocals, background vocals. Man, it’s a party in 4:45. Horns get solos. I’m proud of it. Now, I have to mix it a bit better and play it for some folks.

I am not the artist, so I only do reference vocals. I also only do reference compositions, not finished tracks. In any case, I then I let artists know what I’ve got and see if they are interested in putting it on their album. Of course, I need to confirm the artist truly has a project and real plans for release.

Holding my song hostage and not getting any money for it? Uhn-uhn. Not gonna happen. Premature┬áreleasing is never fun, nor does it protect the song from people taking it. I’m not so invested in the world hearing my song before I’ve protected it’s ability to make money. My ego isn’t that big.
